Due to the European Directive inrelation to domestic buildings UK is committed to helping reduce the Carbon(CO2) Emissions by 40% by the year 2050.
This requires improved standardsand certifying the energy efficiency of buildings not only domestic but others.
The European Commission passedlegislation with the Energy Performance of Building Directive (EPBD) in January2003. The objective of the EPBD is to promote the improvement of the energyperformance of buildings within the European Community.
With the Government announcements, the Energy Performance Certificate is a mandatory item in the Home InformationPack, the future of the pack may seem uncertain at present, however, the focuson Climate Change remains the same and there is a necessity and a commitment toreduce CO2 emissions in buildings, which is the underlying objective behindEPCs.
Energy Performance Certificatescan only be issued by qualified and accreditted Domestic Energy Assessors andHome Inspectors. The diploma is based upon approved National OccupationalStandards. With the qualification of a City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma forDomestic Energy Assessing and gaining accreditation by an authorised issuingbody to register reports with the central database at Landmark.
It is hoped to encourage futurehome ownerÕs and tenants to choose energy efficient properties over poorproperties when seeking to purchase or rent accommodation.
Hopefully this will become a trendthat will encourage present owners and landlords to improve the performance oftheir buildings to ensure speedy sales or occupancy.
